What is Ball Roller Hockey? – The Ball Hockey Game was created as a fast paced Roller Hockey League that plays hockey in a non-check technical game using a weighted 4 ounce ball. Team sizes are between 6 and 10 players; a team fields 4 players, and 1 goaltender at the start of each game. Players play on Inline or Quad roller skates and use basic inline hockey protective gear. Our league allows players to enjoy the game of hockey without excessive time stoppages and unnecessary penalties, all while playing in a competitive environment. The ball is dynamic, simple to shoot, easy to handle and relatively safe when it comes in contact with players. Our game can be enjoyed by all skill levels. Games take place in the indoor hockey rink at the Taylorsville Recreation Center. There are player benches, spectator seating, locker rooms and showers for your convenience.
How was this game created? – In January 2003, founder and owner Jim Trussell created the Xanadu Roller Hockey League (XRHL) in West Valley City, Utah at the indoor Xanadu Skate Center. The idea was to create a hockey league using a ball to make it easier for all skaters to play with fewer equipment requirements, affordable pricing and with less chance of injury while playing. The league grew to as many as 32 teams, including many youth teams, and proved to be a safe, fun and affordable option to play hockey. In February 2015, Jim changed the league name to the Wasatch Roller Hockey League (WRHL) and moved to Taylorsville Recreation Center. We currently allow players aged 14 years and above in our Adult Gold, Silver and Bronze Divisions. Youth leagues often are offered in the Spring and Fall, depending on demand. All are welcome to participate whatever your level of play, including beginners! We believe Ball Roller Hockey is great way to allow all participants to develop and hone hockey skills in a fun and safe environment. Whether you are a floor player, or a goalie, come check us out!
